What are the going Philly Troupe Rates?

What are local troupes charging for a single 30 minute set? Our troupe has a potential gig on the horizon and we want to make sure we're not under-cutting the community, or asking too much.

I think it depends on the size of the troupe, what the troupe does, and the venue/client (corporations pay more, mom-and-pop restaurants less). I just booked a NYE gig for a fire/glow troupe of five dancers for $1,000--but that's on NYE. The last time this discussion came up (I think 2005), a few troupes noted that they try to get $300 to $500; some troupes said they charge $150 base plus $25 to $50 per dancer, so in that case a troupe of four would charge $250 to $350. Fleur wrote an informative note on the efforts and pitfalls of booking tribal troupes; you could try to dig up her note in Phillybellies archives.

I'm curious to hear from others as well, especially Hipnosis (hint hint!). It seems like there are more and larger troupes in the Philly area than ever before.

Ok, sorry I haven't chimed in sooner, but haven't been on tribe much lately...

Hipnosis rates are as follows for a 20-30 minute set, which generally include use of props and audience participation:
      $200 - 2 dancers
      $250 - 3 dancers
      $350 - 4 or more dancers

      I charge $150/set when I dance solo.

Unfortunately, many people who looking to hire a tribal troupe think these prices are out of their budget and will often opt for a solo dancer instead.

When we dance at Little Marakesh (our one regular restaurant gig), they charge a small entertainment fee per person, and that is our pay. This can work out good or bad, depending on the size of the audience.

Hope you find that helpful, and sorry I didn't post sooner!
