HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEEPS !!

I AM LOOKING FOR A TRUST WORTHY GEAT PERSONALITY PERSON TO RUN MY BOOTH THIS NEXT WEEKND OF JUNE 7 & 8TH AT THE LONG VALLEY RENN FAIR IN NORHT JERSEY. BELOW IS WHAT I SELL

ALSO- i just moved to the East coast, I had a store Soul Kiss In Atlanta for the last 15 years and just recently decided to close it to be nearer to my family. I am starting to do Festivals now and not familiar with what Fest's are happening for the rest of the summer that are good for vending in these here parts of the Norht East!! . So if anyone can give me any suggestions i would sooo greatly apprecaite it !!

Also i am vry interested in being a part of Pennsic but unfortuantly now i have a straght job and can only be out there for a week. I have been told that if i am able to even get a booth still, (which if anyone knows who i would speak to woudl be awesome) !! but if i were under the main Bazzar tent it is possable to find someone to look after my booth and sell it while i am not ther for the first week. I woud set it up on the first weekend and be back for the second week.

Also i am interested in knowing of any suggestions on any great street fest's or music Fest's in NYC, NJ, Penn etc etc

thank you sooo much and Radiant Radiant blessings to you. Also below is a synopsis of what i sell (minus all the pretty graghics ... sorry )

Soul Kiss is blend of goods all finely chosen or made by my own design in various places around the world. If you find me at a Festival, this is what you will see:

\ Soul Kiss Silver - Many of my peices are antique. Much of the very rare and authentically old peices of silver from India are gone, However I am still able to bring incredably rare and old peices to my customers. Many of the peices i get are old sterling silver wedding peices from women in Rhajastan which i find and re-string them into a clevor design of necklaces which are adjustable. Becuase they are adjustable they are like three neck's in one becuase they can be worn as a high choker or many different lengths. When worn as a choker the strands hang down the back. Soul Kiss also carries very unique stones, an awesome eclectic array of earings and rings.
\ Mid priced jewerly - Also very unique designs. Much of of it is made of natural elements such as wood, bamboo and stones. All with a very exotic feel.

\ Clothing - All my own designs. Mostly street wear with a tribal edge. Great all natural japenese style shirts for women, with hand painted wood beaded tyes. Beautiful skirts with panels of very old hand embroidered fabrics the northern Indian gypsy tribes. Lots of Men's too which is rare at Fest's because there are never any great choices for guys!! All made with beautiful natural fabrics. sexy.

\ Beautiful Statues and hand carved masks - All carved out of exotic woods such as mango wood and jackfruit wood etc. All of my carvings i have made in very small villages in the high mountains of Bali. I support many many families and artisans in those villages.

\ Accesories - I carry many various Sacred art scarves from India, I have yummy pashimina's that make great elegant shawls for a light weight but warm cover up for the summer. And great prices too !! Soul Kiss carries alot of antique wedding sari's that are gorgous.
\For the Bellydancers - Depending on the Festival, you will always find great stuf for the Bellydancers. Some of the Fest's more so, depending on which one, but e-mail me and i will let you know which ones. I will always carry exotic adormnents tho that are not readily seen at most or all fest's !! So please visit me soon

Thanx Sheri Poole

Soul Kiss World Imports

P.S - Please let me know if you know of any other music Fest's or great street Fest's that you have been to!! I am new to the East Coast and just learning where and when all the great Fest's are !! Thanx and hope to C you Soon !!

Moving Arts of Mt. Airy - MAMA

This seemed the most logical place to post this. Has anyone been to MAMA? Has anyone taken belly dance classes there? They have as their teacher Sherry Paris.

I'm asking because my BF's cousin decided she wanted to look into dance classes after we took them out to dinner at Little Marekesh. This place looked to be close to her. Dance is offered on Saturday afternoons so I could go with her to her first few classes if she felt uncomfortable.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about:

MAMA: MOVING ARTS of Mt. Airy
Studio: Just off the Corner of Carpenter Lane & Greene Street - enter off driveway
Two blocks west of Lincoln Dr. - by the Environmental Home Store & across from Weavers Way Co-op
Mailing Address (only): 6819 Greene Street Philadelphia PA 19119
215-842-1040

They have lots of interesting looking offerings, such as Pilates, Yoga, Fencing, Tai Chi, and other dances .

Course I am also open to suggestion for other classes in the Chestnut Hill area.

I am the local dancer that is doing one of the side shows!!! So come out and see it!

We’ve also added clowning, aerial dance, feats of strength and dexterity, live musical variety acts, and a sideshow the likes of which have never been seen anywhere. All of this is framed by a touching pantomime of two young lovers whose lives are torn asunder by the winds of fate and the whirl of the circus.

*** Hey, parents! The BIG TOP is a family-friendly show, so we're offering special rate for kids at every show on our tour. Bring your whole family and let them see a vision of size acceptance that is revolutionary and fun.

BigMoves is dedicated to creating high-quality, multi-genre dance
productions featuring performers of all sizes. Because performance
dance in the Western tradition has historically been restricted to thin bodies, BigMoves is particularly focused on providing training and performance opportunities for dancers who are larger than dance world norms. Our outreach and education programs promote self-acceptance and self-love for all dancers, of any size and all skill levels, as they work toward growing and fine-tuning their range of abilities, technique, and expression through movement. We are a community of pioneers, banded together to support each other in expanding and exploring the boundaries of the dancer’s body. Ultimately, these explorations are directed at nothing less than a paradigm shift, toward a society in which size diversity is celebrated, not feared.

BigMoves was founded in 2000 by Marina Wolf Ahmad, a plus-size dancer who wanted to create community, training opportunities, and
performances for herself and other dancers who otherwise were left out of the dance mainstream. The organization began operations in the San Francisco Bay Area, and expanded to Boston in January 2005, and to New York in May of 2006. These three areas have their own branches of Big Moves, and Boston additionally is the home base for a touring company that reaches to Montréal, Philadelphia, Washington DC, as well as other locations along the East Coast.

BigMoves is award-winning. Internationally award-winning. Our revival
of Gargantua got rave reviews from audiences and thumbs-up from the critics, and we brought back the prestigious Spirit of the Fringe award from the Montréal Fringe Festival in June. Naturally, this sort of honor just makes us leap higher at the brass ring of greatness, which means that our fans and sponsors can be sure they are supporting some of the best and most groundbreaking performances in the field of size-accepting dance and theater.
Aubre has been studying movement her entire life, everything from Bellydance, Jazz, Tap, Hiphop, Social dance, Ballet, Musical Theatre, Pilates, and Yoga. She is a lifelong student of Suhaila Salimpour and teaches bellydance technique based on the Suhaila format. The blend of her influences creates a strong basis for dynamic and innovative performances and teaching. With over 14 years of teaching experience and a broad background of movements, she gives her students the tools they need to progress and grow. With years of experience in jazz and the world of musical theatre, she passes along key elements to creating artistic and intriguing performances. Her classical Pilates training greatly influenced her own practice and thus the work she could offer her students, including injury prevention and rehabilitation.

In Arabic, ‘Hafla’ translates simply into a party. Our party includes Bellydance performances, music, open floor dancing, vending of Middle Eastern & bellydance goods and food (traditional Middle Eastern and American)!

What to expect?

The hafla is opened to all and is very family friendly. Opened floor dancing welcomes everyone to get up and dance, even if you don’t know how to belly dance. The mansion is also open to walk around and appreciate the talents of local artisans.

Optional:

Because of the informal setting, we welcome you to bring pillows or blankets to sit and relax on.
show Le Serpent Rouge. She has been touring with Bellydance Superstars since the fall of 2005 and can be seen performing on their new Tribal Fusions DVD.

Combining talents with David Satori and Tommy Cappel to create Tribal Derivations last spring, Zoe discovered she enjoyed creating music, and plans to make more.
An innovative dancer, Zoe has been said to have her own unique take on Tribal bellydance. She takes her influence from Art Nouveau, tango, Breakdance, and Indian classical dance.
Sabriye Tekbilek is a performer and instructor of Middle Eastern dance whose stage presence and technique have been shaped by a lifetime of international performance and study.
Daughter of renowned Turkish musician, "Haci" Ahmet Tekbilek, and Lisa Djeylan, pioneer of Belly Dance in Sweden, Sabriye was born into an environment of music and dance. As a child and young adult Sabriye studied many dance forms, including Middle Eastern Dance, Ballet and Flamenco.

January Intensive in Philly with Tempest

Winter is the perfect time to focus inwardly on ourselves to bring about outward change for Spring. So my January intensive will focus on "Enhancing Dance With Ritual" - a 3 hour intensive geared towards both dancers and Pagans, on incorporating the elements of ritual into the dance, while examining the relevance of the sacred and profane.

1-19-08 at Studio Zen, Yardley, Pennsylvania - Sponsored by Ak'Ana & Med'Devi Ink

Enhancing Dance With Ritual - learn to incorporate sacred meaning and intent with dance movement. Ritual is a dynamic union of self and spirit, above and below-so why should it be static? Learn to incorporate movement into your ritual with focused intention and discover a much more powerful experience. We'll look at the parts of various rituals from start to end, and how different sacred movements (gestures and dance steps) can be applied. Using ritual concepts from mystical spiritual traditions from both the East and West, we'll examine how the structure of a ritual can create a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in your performance. A basic understanding of Pagan spirituality is helpful, but not required (however, an open mind and creativity is!). This workshops is geared to bellydancers as well as for Pagans looking to invigorate their workspace.

TUITION: $50 in advance by 1/13, $60 afterwards if space is available.
Class space is very limited, so be sure to register ASAP so you won't miss out!

STUDIO DETAILS: Studio Zen, Address: 301 Oxford Valley Road, Suite 1503, Yardley, PA
website: studiozen.org

DATE & TIME: Saturday, January 19th, 2008 (snow date 1/26). Workshop will run 1-4pm. (Registration starts at 12:30pm.) The intensive will be followed by a Gothla (Gothic Hafla - a bellydance party with vendors and performances) will run from 6-9pm, with doors opening at 6pm, and an open path ritual will start off our festivities (all are welcome!).

GOTHLA!
What's a Gothla? A gothic hafla of course! Performances by Tempest and more, and vending as well! Takes place in the same location as the workshops. Doors open at 6pm, and event runs until 9pm. For a dance slot email us! (preference will be given to workshop students for performance slots). A few vending spots will be available for the gothla, and possibly during the workshops as well - email to reserve your spot! The Gothla is free to workshop participants/performers, and suggested donation of $5 ismuch appreciated at the door for all others. Seating is casual/Middle Eastern style (rugs & pillows), so for extra-cushioning, you may want to bring some additional pillows and rugs for your backside!

Ariellah Workshops Dec 1 &2 !!

Registration is now open!!

December 1 & 2, 2007 - 2-day Workshop with Ariellah and Winter Belly Jam

Hipnosis is excited to be hosting a full weekend of workshops with Ariellah of CA!
Ariellah performs and teaches belly dance all over the world. She has an extensive 12 year dance background that includes strict classical ballet training with the Royal Academy of Dance from London. She studied and performed belly dance for the past six years with Janine Ryle of Danse Mahgreb and as a founding member of The Indigo with Rachel Brice. Her style infuses many genres of belly dance, all with a modern dark flavour that is uniquely her own. She is featured on the first of its kind “Gothic BellyDance” DVD and has also released her first instructional DVD.

*Saturday, Dec 1st: 1:00-5:30pm (includes 1/2 hour break)
Tribal Fusion Conditioning, Layering and Choreography
Prepare your body to do more than just drill and isolate, but to dance and to layer basic belly dance movements. This workshop focuses on strengthening and isolating core muscles in preparation for layering movements, incorporating these layering drills into a choreography learned in the workshop.
All levels are welcome; some belly dance experience is helpful but not required. Please dress as though you are going to a yoga class; bring a yoga mat or a towel, a hip scarf and water bottle (preferably full).

*Sunday, Dec 2nd: 12:00-3:30pm (includes 1/2 hour break)
The Darker Side of Drilling: Gothic Combinations and Choreography
In Ariellah’s workshop, students will drill and discuss chest and hip isolations, pops, locks and snake-like gothic belly dance arm movements, incorporating a dramatic darker side to their dance. Students will learn a short choreography, which will incorporate these techniques. Reinforcing fundamentals will bring strength and fluidity to the student’s movements and elevate their dance.
This class is fun and appropriate for all levels of Tribal-flavored dancer, and those new to Tribal Style are encouraged to give it a try. Some Belly dance experience is recommended. Please wear exercise-friendly clothes and bring something to tie around your hips! Water is good too.

Where: B&R Fitness Club, 1040 Mill Creek Drive (just off Street Road), Feasterville, PA 19053
*Workshops will be held in a spacious aerobic room with polished hard-wood floors and a mirrored front wall!

Cost: $65 for Sat or Sun only; $120 for entire weekend.

Registration: available via Paypal & Snail Mail!
"BLACK TIE GALA AT OFFICIAL GRAND OPENING OF KING TUT EXHIBIT AT THE FRANKLIN INSTITUTE ON FEBRUARY 3, 2007"
By SORAYA

On Saturday, February 3, 2007, I performed in one of most amazing events ever...

This incredible evening of high cultural art took place at the famous Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA. I opened the milestone exhibit of:

"King Tutankhamen and The Golden Age of the Pharaohs"

I am so thrilled to be able to share my joy with all of you...
Just when I thought it couldn't get any better after opening the concert for Egyptian singing superstar Amr Diab, hanging out with him backstage in the dressing room at The Trump Taj Mahal Casino last March 2006; I was hired to belly dance at the official grand opening black tie Gala of the most amazing event ever. Entertaining for this milestone museum exhibit is something I will never forget. This event has brought me to such a heightened pinnacle and is definitely one of the highlights of my entire belly dance career. I performed for over 1,000 Egyptian and American dignitaries as national and International press swarmed the scene and television networks filmed every aspect of the event. The Egyptian Ambassador to the United Nations, along with Zahi Hawass, secretary general of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, the governor, among many other VIP's from all over the US and the globe were there. I met many celebrities and had a fantastic evening.

I had a staff of people that were assigned to me which included a person to escort me and my entourage back and forth to my dressing room after each dance performance and press photo session, my own DJ, lighting and sound crew. It was so much fun to be a main focal point of high Egyptian art and accompany this milestone, once-in-a-lifetime cultural exhibit. I thoroughly enjoyed performing not only in front of so many cameras and high-end guests of the gala but also to see what goes on behind the scenes as well. It was not only wonderful as a professional International artist but, as an event planner and entertainment agent as well. It was fascinating being a part of history in the making.

The Franklin Institute told me I was carefully selected to entertain and provide Egyptian belly dancing. They told me they wanted this very rare, high-society, official grand opening gala to be as perfect as possible since you only have "one chance to impress" as so many VIP's, global dignitaries, celebrities and press were present in one place. This event was beyond MEGA HUGE for the city of Philadelphia and the entire Eastern Seaboard. It was like the red carpet at the Oscars for Egyptian culture! I was in belly dance heaven and still am. You could literally feel the excitement in the air for this once in a lifetime gala to honor King Tut and Egyptian culture in the best way possible.

"King Tut mania" has spread over the entire Philadelphia and tri-state area. It is everywhere you look. The Four Seasons Hotel (a personal favorite of my husband and I) and other area restaurants/hotels are offering beautiful and delicious culinary treats of Egyptian and King Tut inspired food selections and cocktails. The Four Seasons Hotel in particular, is offering such amazing delights at the gourmet "Fountain" restaurant as well as in the "Swan" lounge. The other entertainment of the evening were men dressed as Pharaohs and there was a live camel greeting the guests! I prepared extra special Egyptian choreographies as well as musical selections for the evening. I could not have had a better time with my craft. I am at the peak of my artistic and creative journey.

For my many performances, I had large television and movie crews following me around with their lights, cameras and microphones. One giant crew in particular taped me for ten minutes straight! I was told I was being filmed as part of a National Geographic documentary that will be aired worldwide very soon! It will appear on an International special about "King Tut and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs" exhibit. It was so awesome. I was also taped for Egyptian television as there were numerous film crews, reporters, and press photographers from not only Philadelphia, New Jersey, Delaware and New York, but also Cairo, Egypt, Beirut, Lebanon and from all around the Middle East and Europe who were present as well.

Within the exhibit itself, there is not only a child-sized throne made of wood, gesso, gold, ivory, and copper alloy but also artifacts from the five other Pharaohs tombs, which ruled during the “Golden Age”. Close to 130 artifacts comprise "Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs". Fifty artifacts excavated from the tomb of King Tutankhamen range from his Royal Diadem or his beautiful solid gold and bejeweled crown to the miniature confinettes that contained his mummified organs. In addition to the artifacts from King Tut’s tomb there are more than 70 pieces from tombs of other rulers that were also part of the “Golden Age”. All of the antiquities within the exhibit date back more than 3,500 years. It is truly something to behold...This Philadelphia stop on the King Tut exhibit tour will be the only one in the Northeastern region and the last stop in the U.S. before it heads to London, England.

During my many different Egyptian performances throughout this fabulous evening, I could literally FEEL the history and I was so thrilled to have been part of this much hyped grand opening black tie ball. Performing at this gorgeous gala seriously kicked it up to a whole new level. This means so much to me not only as an International belly dance artist and entertainment agent but as a cultural Anthropologist. I am still reeling from all of the excitement of performing on February 3...

May all of your most wildest dreams (both professional and personally)
come true for all of you too as they have for me!

Life doesn't get much better than this

Much love and many shimmies,

HAPPY SPRING!

Hi,
I am a bellydancer from Jacksonville florida. My mother and I attended Spirit of the Tribes in Ft. Lauderdale this year and she has now been bitten by the dancing bug. I haven't been able to convince her to move down here to take classes so I am looking for info on teachers/instuctors in the northeast philly area. She is looking for a basic or beginners class preferably ATS/tribal, but a really good all around teacher would work. Any info that anyone has good or bad would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Barb

§ August 25 & 26, 2007 - Sharon Kihara Workshops!

Hipnosis is excited to be hosting a full weekend of workshops with Sharon Kihara of the Bellydance Superstars! Sharon has been performing and teaching Tribal fusion belly dance in the San Francisco Bay area and abroad since 1999, and touring with the Bellydance Superstars since early 2004. She is a member of the school of her most notable teacher, Suhaila Salimpour, as well as "The Indigo" with Rachel Brice. To learn more about Sharon, visit her web site at www.sharonkihara.com

Saturday, Aug 25th: 1:00-5:30pm (includes 1/2 hour break)

** Hustle and Flow: A Day of Technique Building, Body Creativity and Conditioning for the Tribal Fusion Dancer.

Come and enjoy this intense (and fun) workout! This class is designed for any level of dancer who wishes to push themselves in the realms of strength, flexibility and endurance. Using a variety of movement methods, we will condition and tone the muscles that we rely on most as belly dancers, emphasizing healthy alignment of the spine and joints. After a warm-up and mat session, we will then rock out with technique-focused drills of fresh Tribal Fusion combinations, and this body-warming class will culminate in an original Tribal Fusion choreography that has been performed by the Bellydance Superstars! Again, all levels are welcome; some belly dance experience is helpful but not required. Please dress as though you are going to a yoga class; bring a yoga mat or a towel, a hip scarf and water bottle (preferably full).

Sunday, Aug 26th: 12:00-4:30pm (includes 1/2 hour break)

** Weaving it Together: Technique-Focused Dance Combinations.

In this class we will not only work on honing our dance technique, we will put it to good use as we put those moves we have drilled ever so faithfully! We will learn and create some fun combinations that can be incorporated into your own repertoire, keeping strong muscular skill and alignment well in hand so the creative juices are free to flow! This class is fun and appropriate for all levels of Tribal-flavored dancer, and those new to Tribal Style are encouraged to give it a try. Some Belly dance experience is recommended. Please wear exercise-friendly clothes and bring something to tie around your hips! Water is good for you.

Where: B&R Fitness Club, 1040 Mill Creek Drive (just off Street Road), Feasterville, PA 19053
*Workshops will be held in a spacious aerobic room with polished hard-wood
floors and a mirrored front wall!

Cost: $65 for Sat or Sun only; $120 for entire weekend.

Be sure to bring water, a light snack, yoga mat or towel, and a few extra dollars to spend in the Souk (vendors will only available on Saturday!).

We hope you all decide to stick around after the workshop on Saturday for our Summer Belly Jam!!

Sorry for the short notice I just heard about this myself. There is a rally in Rittenhouse Square Tomorrow, May 1st at Noon to protest the attempts by Philadelphia police to stop people from singing and playing live music in the park. Spread the word even if you can't make it. I'm a few blocks from there so I'll make every effort to be there. Here's a link to the article about the incident that sparked everything:
